Cat diarrhea simply refers to the condition in which a cat frequently passes out watery stool. Besides being watery, the general output volume of the stool is also increased. However, cat diarrhea is not a disease on its own. It is mainly a symptom of other diseases that affect cats such as intestinal infections. In that case, it is important to ensure you take good care of the pet by feeding it properly as well as taking care of its health through regular veterinary check ups. Symptoms of cat diarrhea

Cat diarrhea is a serious health condition that results to dehydration and abdominal pain to the cat. The cat experiencing cat diarrhea shows signs of loss of appetite, depression and increased thirst due to excessive fluid loss from the body. The small intestines of the cat with diarrhea are also affected whereby it may increase up to three times the normal size and also lack mucous. Another symptom of cat diarrhea is reduction of the normal size of the large intestine where blood and mucous are present. The feces of the affected cat appear in a yellow or frothy color and may contain blood stains.

What are the causes of cat diarrhea?

There are a wide variety of causes of diarrhea in cats ranging from minor to major causes. Diet is one of the causes of cat diarrhea. The food consumed by the cat may cause diarrhea especially when there is a sudden change from one diet to the another. For instance,dairy related products in the diet of the cat can be one of the causes of diarrhea since cats are intolerant to lactose which is present in dairy products. Other causes of cat diarrhea include minor diseases in cats such as intestinal or stomach viruses and parasites, overfeeding, stress and poor food quality. Major diseases in cats that results to diarrhea are inclusive of viral, parasites, fungal and bacterial infections, liver or kidney diseases and inability of the pancreas to function normally.

Are there any remedies to cat diarrhea?

Like any other health condition in animals, cat diarrhea is a manageable condition. It can be treated in various ways that are determined by the cause of the condition. In that case, treatment begins by diagnosing the cause of diarrhea. The treatments are inclusive of withholding food for at least a day and providing water to the cat. This is the perfect way to manage acute diarrhea. In case the diarrhea is caused by an internal obstruction a surgery is recommended. Antibiotics administration to the cat may be perfect for bacterial infections causing cat diarrhea. Providing lots of fluids, mostly water would also work for a cat experiencing dehydration as a result of constant diarrhea.

Basically, cat diarrhea is a normal cat condition resulting from various ailments that affects cats. It can be acute lasting for about three weeks or chronic lasting for more than three weeks.It is a problem that can be controlled if detected early enough. However, if not treated in immediately, cat diarrhea can be fatal causing death of the cat.
